From the moment Officer Ethan Hale pulls Abby Foster from icy waters, he senses there’s more to her than meets the eye. Abby has no memory of the accident that submerged her car in the frozen river. Three years ago, Abby was kidnapped and abandoned in a well for a week. The botched police investigation nearly killed her. Abby had moved to the mountains of Pennsylvania for a fresh start, but when it becomes clear that this car crash wasn’t an accident, she knows the violence from her past has caught up with her.

But Abby’s former assailant was convicted and imprisoned, so who else wants her dead?

Ethan uncovers a fresh string of murders tied to Abby’s past. Someone is trying to kill her, and this time the stalker seems determined to finish the task. As the killer grows bolder, Abby begins to trust Ethan enough to share the truth, her heart, and her life. But to stop the murders, Ethan must make a decision that could jeopardize it all.

She Can Hide She Can Series Book 4 edition by Melinda Leigh Romance eBooks

This is my first book by Ms. Leigh. I love a good mystery and when you couple that with a good romance, I'm in heaven.

While I feel the writing was good and the characters were engaging, I wanted more. More of Ethan and Abby's developing relationship. I wanted to feel his passion for her, but in that department it felt lackluster. I would almost call this a sweet love story if there hasn't been any actual sex.

Next, I found the mystery surprisingly engrossing, but I was disappointed at the inability of the author to create a more "revealing" outcome. Ms. Leigh wrote such good prose, full of accurate spine-tingling descriptions (Abby's experience in the river was superbly described) that I wanted more at that same level of expertise. And I didn't feel that was done.

All in all if Ms. Leigh wrote a hotter book with the same level of mystery, I'd be a new fan. Otherwise, her stories are too vanilla for me.

She Can Hide She Can Series Book 4 edition by Melinda Leigh Romance eBooks Reviews

After reading books 1-3, I was pleasantly surprised by the story line in book 4. Books 1-3 centered on a sicko chasing women. There were surprises but sickos after women seem to cover well over 50% of mysteries. I liked #4 the best because the bad guys are people with a purpose and it is a good mystery with surprises. (Book 5 is a quick read and having just started #6, I am encouraged so far.)
-- SPOILER ALERT! --

"She Can Hide" is book 4 in the "She Can" series, and like book 3, "She Can Scream," it's full of suspense, mystery, and romance that keeps you engaged from beginning to end, and like book 3, the characters are well-developed and likeable. Novels like this one where the author brings the supporting characters to the forefront giving them each a purpose instead of just introducing them only to never see them again, is what makes for a terrific and more engaging read. The author also does a superb job of taking all the mini-plots and tying them together, in the end giving her readers a well-written and most intriguing tale, leaving them in suspense, and guessing who the killer is.

-- SPOILER ALERT! --

While I did love the story, I was a quite peeved when I reached the end when I read the words "marry me." Cue the eye-rolls. I'm also adding a huge sigh. I'm so not a fan of novels where the H/h - having only known each other for a couple of days or weeks - get engaged. I'm sure there are other ways for the couple to have a happy ending. I just find the "let's get married" endings to be so unrealistic and trite, not to mention done to death. But hey, that's just me.

In the end, "She Can Hide" is a novel I highly recommend, especially to those who love the suspense-romance genre. Now for book 5.
Melinda Leigh continues with a fast-paced, scary read in her "She Can" series with Abby Foster and Ethan Hale as the main protagonists. Abby has been hiding since her kidnapping three years previous. She narrowly escaped the last time and now someone is trying to kill her -- again. Westbury Officer Ethan Hale pulls Abby from a freezing river and they soon realize there is more to this "accident." With a good number of twists, strong action scenes, characters to care about and several tension-inducing subplots, Ms. Leigh has me blundering about following a number of false clues to find the bad guy. I think I would know better. A 4.5 stars for all the above.
I've now read all four of the "She Can" series. But for a host of irritations, all might have earned five stars.

On the plus side, I've always enjoyed it when the same characters appear in sequential stories. It gives the reader a chance to get to know everybody a little better and to develop attachments or dislikes as the case may be. Ms. Leigh does an okay job of creating her players, for the most part. A big plus This author treats sex with the best touch I've seen in a long time. In each book she gives the hero and heroine a scene or two of good healthy, lusty lovemaking that is just graphic enough to be nicely titillating, yet isn't gratuitous and doesn't descend into pornography or vulgarity.

If I could criticize anything, I'd suggest that her main players be given a bit more depth. That is to say, give them some real, human faults mixed with their good traits, instead of the total moral integrity and chiseled good looks they all seem to have. Similarly, too often Leigh's candidates for Villain are equally evil at first sight. With a better mix of good and bad in all the players, maybe the reveals could have been more believable yet still surprising enough to satisfy. For these reasons, the endings of all four disappointed - this one because the culprit was readily identifiable from mid-story; others because the chief antagonist came from such an unlikely direction as to stretch credibility. One thing really grated on me Why the pervasive dog and horse theme throughout all four books? Maybe a pet cat or two mixed in here and there for balance would have done well for those who are not horse or dog lovers. Or failing that, perhaps the animal thing could have just been toned down some.

All things considered, I would recommend this series to anybody who likes light reading romance without having to follow a lot of convoluted plot twists. Just don't expect any credible surprises by way of denouement.
Action packed, suspenseful, the story is a well-written thriller. The author’s injections of twists and turns to the plot line seem to be timed just so that when the reader is about to take a reading break, a new point of intrigue pops in; it’s tough to put the book down! The background details supporting the context of the situation at hand enhance the reader’s ability to envision the details of each scene and contribute to an enjoyable and quick read. Love, intrigue for the unrevealed, police work, action — high recommendations for this book.
